Used some science today to remove the rust from the 4-speed gear cluster I salvaged. Turns out, you can use an electrolytic process to pull rust off of old parts, as if by magic. Here is before and after. The metal is still pitted from where the rust was, but it's all been lifted out and replaced with more stable black stuff. Here is a more dramatic before and after.
Here's my first entry for the Vespa development journal. I have a lot of catching up to do, so bear with me while I backdate a lot of this stuff.
